Edwina Pendarvis

Huntington, United States

Edwina Pendarvis, Professor Emeritus at Marshall University, minored in sociolinguistics in her doctoral work at the University of Kentucky years ago and never got over it. She spent most of her career researching and writing about Appalachian dialects and culture; poetry; and education for gifted children from working-class and rural communities. Retired, she still reads articles and books on linguistics, but she also delights in watching TV series like “Justified” (set in her native state of Kentucky).
